ACCREDITATION

About Accreditation

Tsuki Bu-Do Kai Martial Arts Society International is the first and only Martial Arts governing body that recognizes the need to provide professional Accreditation for martial arts schools and instructors.

Through our accreditation program martial arts instructors and schools receive official recognition for their dedication to safety and observance of generally sound practices. By meeting the 18 points of excellence any martial arts instructor or school can establish themselves as a school of honor and receive accreditation from TBDK-MASI.

Accreditation is a progressive and time-proven way of helping institutions evaluate and improve their overall performance. The cornerstone of this strategy lies in the promulgation of standards containing a clear statement of professional objectives. Participating schools or systems then conduct a thorough analysis to determine how existing operations can be adapted to meet these objectives. When the procedures are in place, a team of independent professionals is assigned to verify that all applicable standards have been successfully implemented. The process culminates with a decision by an authoritative body that the institution is worthy of accreditation.

The practice of accrediting institutions began more than 200 years ago. The concept has been used in fields as diverse as education, law enforcement and health care.

Accreditation provides formal recognition that an institution meets or exceeds general expectations of quality in their field. In essence, accreditation acknowledges the implementation of policies that are conceptually sound and operationally effective.

The law enforcement field, universities, hospitals and other professional organizations have, for many years, undergone similar accreditation processes to prove compliance with a set of professional, nationwide standards. Accreditation serves to distinguish participating organizations as having met professional standards of conduct and service. As in other professional organizations, TBDK-MASI recognized the need to develop professional standards. Accordingly, TBDK-MASI has established a body of standards intended to increase efficiency, effectiveness and accountability in Martial Arts schools and organizations. Due to the common nature of all martial arts TBDK-MASI has established these guidelines to meet the needs of all individuals and schools regardless of style, curriculum, or other affiliations.

Benefits of Accreditation

Controlled liability insurance costs: Accredited status makes it easier for schools to purchase liability insurance; allows schools to increase the limit of their insurance coverage more easily; and, in many cases, results in lower premiums, or receive other financial incentives. While this benefit is common, TBDK-MASI cannot guarantee that accreditation will in fact improve an instructors chances of receiving insurance as these decisions are made solely by the insurance agency.

Stronger defense against civil lawsuits: Accredited schools are better able to defend themselves against civil lawsuits. Also, many schools will report a decline in legal actions against them, once they become accredited.

Staunch support from government officials, the general public, as well as students and their guardians. Accreditation provides objective evidence of a schools commitment to excellence in leadership, resource management, and service-delivery. Thus, the public is more confident in the schools ability to operate efficiently and meet community needs.

Adherence to standards reinforces public confidence in Martial Arts Schools and training much the same as it does for hospitals, universities, and other professional services. Accreditation makes a statement to other schools and instructors, professions and the community that the accredited school meets the highest level of standards and professionalism available.

    WHY?

TBDK-MASI believes that the number of legitimately certified and qualified individuals teaching martial arts today is on the decline. We seek to restore and establish the arts as a legitimate profession garnering all the respect it deserves. Martial arts instructors have spent thousands of hours training and learning their trade, not to mention the time and effort required to obtain accreditation! We feel that any individual or organization willing to seek official recognition for their convictions should not have to spend even more money to do so. Being ethical, safe and professional are not traits that can be bought and sold like a commodity!
